Product Evaluation Services

Engineering, Testing, Certification and Code Evaluation

We develop comprehensive technical evaluation reports for building products and systems, supporting use by architects, structural engineers, regulatory authorities, and builders. Our reports clearly define applicable code provisions, provide detailed compliance analysis, and document key performance attributes including material properties, fire, structural and durability. Reports include pre-engineered solution tables, diagrams and models to support efficient use during design, plan review, and construction phases.

Testing & Regulatory Approvals

Working with a network of international laboratories, our expertise is in testing systems for Structural Loading, Wind Pressure, Dynamic Wind-Rain, Fire-Resistance, Seismic, Hurricane and Wild-Fire exposure. BOCA provides end-to-end support for obtaining third-party product certifications and regulatory approvals, helping clients efficiently navigate complex approval pathways across North America. Our services include:

  • Certification strategy development tailored to target markets (Canada, U.S., or international)
  • Test program planning and gap analysis to align with certification body requirements
  • Preparation of technical documentation, including engineering analyses, calculations, and supporting data packages
  • Preparation of Quality Inspections documentation
  • Response to regulator comments and iterative submittals to expedite approvals

We focus on minimizing time to market by aligning testing, engineering, and documentation into a coordinated certification strategy.

Fire Performance of Structures

We provide consulting for fire performance evaluation of building materials and assemblies, integrating fire engineering principles with full-scale and bench-scale testing.

Our capabilities include:

  • Development of fire test programs aligned with applicable ASTM, NFPA and UL/ULC standards
  • Engineering analysis and interpretation of fire test results to support compliance and data extension
  • Performance-based fire design for alternative solutions and non-prescriptive applications
  • Assessment of combustible and non-combustible assemblies, including façade systems, roofing, and interior finishes
  • Coordination and witnessing of fire testing to ensure alignment with project objectives

By bridging testing, analysis, and code requirements, we help clients develop defensible solutions for increasingly complex fire performance challenges.

Inside the BOCA Evaluation report program

With professional engineering licenses across numerous Canadian and US jurisdictions, our reach extends across the continent.

BOCA evaluation reports address compliance with a wide range of North American codes, including:

  • National Building Code of Canada (NBC) and provincial codes such as BCBC, OBC, and ABC
  • International Building Code (IBC) and state-specific codes such as the Florida Building Code (FBC) and California Building Code (CBC)
  • International Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Code

We offer four tiers of renewable evaluation reports to align with performance scope, regulatory needs, and market objectives:

Tier 1 – Full Code Compliance

Comprehensive evaluation demonstrating compliance and design solutions of a product or system with all applicable provisions of a specified building code.

Tier 2 – Application-Specific Code Compliance

Focused evaluation addressing compliance and design solutions with a specific application or performance requirement within a building code (e.g., wind load, seismic, fire classifications, etc.).

Tier 3 – Code-Referenced Standard Compliance

Evaluation of a product’s compliance with a specific standard as referenced within a building code, without full code analysis.

Tier 4 – Standard Compliance Only

Verification of compliance with a specific standard, without direct assessment against building code requirements.

Renewable reports are kept current with annual updates and republication, always sealed with a professional engineer’s stamp and make clear statements of compliance.

BOCA evaluation reports support the professional design process of any building construction and are prepared ready for permit documentation submittals.

  • Shop drawing presentation of pre-engineered structural assemblies, ready for site-specific applications.
  • Fire-rating design solutions to key code-referenced standards such as ASTM E119, CAN/ULC S134, ASTM E108, NFPA 285, CAN/ULC S101, and NFPA 286)
  • Expedite Miami-Dade NOA and CalFire BML regulatory approvals
  • Florida Building Code Evaluation per Rule 61G20-3 – Statewide Product Approval
